Vulcano is the island of the archipelago closest to Sicily and is famous for the volcanic nature that characterises it, such as underwater muds and fumaroles, known throughout the world for its benefits to skin health and in treating rheumatism. But the main protagonist is the Great Crater of Vulcano, a unique place from which you can admire the entire Aeolian archipelago at a single glance and the Vulcanello Peninsula.
Our tour will be conducted with the help of an expert volcanological guide. We will start from the Port of Vulcano and we will follow a path that takes about 2 hours and leads to the Great Crater. The path to the summit consists of a nature walk, along a path surrounded by volcanic boulders and broom plants. In addition to offering a breathtaking view of the sea, the summit, allows you to experience a "living" mountain, which continues to emit heat and fumes even though the last eruption dates back to 1980.
The only visible evidence of volcanic activity in the dormant volcano are the fumaroles, which are mainly composed of sulphur and sulphur dioxide, creating a mixture that gives the ground an unusual yellow ochre and red colour, contrasting with the black volcanic ash and the green vegetation. After reaching the crater, which is a depression of about 5000 metres in diameter, it will be possible to stop for about half an hour to enjoy this unusual and unique panorama. Afterwards, we will begin our return journey back to the port.
Times are to be agreed when you make your booking (from 9 am to 5 pm).
